Obituary of Dorothy Foshee
Mrs. Dorothy Daniel Foshee, age 90, of Barnesville, GA. passed away on Monday, March 9, 2009 at an Upson County healthcare facility.
Mrs. Foshee was born March 16, 1918, in Americus, to the late Eugene and Mary Berta McGarrah Daniel. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Edwin Dorsey Foshee and a Brother, Joseph Daniel.
Mrs. Foshee graduated from the University of Georgia in 1939 with a degree in Home Economics, which she taught for a year following that education. She then secured a position with Farmer’s Home as a Home Economist, and remained there during WWII and through the year 1942 when she married Mr. Foshee. As her children grew, she taught middle school math. Throughout her life, Mrs. Foshee was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Patie Hubbard Guild, a Charter Member and Former President of the Azalea Garden Club; and, along with her Husband, secured the very first public swimming pool in Lamar County. She was also a longtime member of the local chapter of D.A.R., the Middle Georgia Cattleman’s Association, and the Georgia State Cattleman’s Association.
She is survived by her Sons, Edwin Dorsey Foshee, Jr. of Barnesville; Danny and Wife, Coopie Foshee of Vidalia; Grandchildren: Meredith Thompson and Husband, Les of Atlanta; Daniel and Wife, Naomi Foshee of Atlanta; Elizabeth Foshee of Manhattan, N.Y.; Great-Grandson, Jake Foshee of Atlanta; and a number of Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Daniel Foshee will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville at 3 PM. The Rev. Jay Tenney will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Tuesday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 PM in Williams Funeral Home.
