Kay was born in Moultrie, GA to the late Edwin and Katherine Edge. She was raised in Doerun, GA and Thomasville, GA, where she spent lots of time with her brothers, her grandparents, and her cousins. She loved her horse, Lady, and she worked at the YMCA. Kay graduated from Thomas County High School and then attended and graduated from Tift College, where she majored in Early Childhood Education. While attending a Rexall One Cent Sale at Alexander’s Pharmacy, she caught the eye of a young Pharmacist, Dohn Bonner, who would become her future husband. Kay taught school for a short time before becoming a fulltime mother and homemaker. When her children were teenagers, she helped with the Monroe County Library’s Summer Reading program, and then became the Storytime Lady. She helped grow many young readers by sharing her love for books.

Kay lived in Forsyth, GA from 1962 until 2021 when she moved to Albany, GA to be closer to family and grandkids. Prior to her death, she was a member of Barnesville First Methodist Church, but she was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Forsyth for many years. At Christ UMC, she volunteered wherever she was needed. She served as the President of the United Methodist Women and the Missions Board. She also studied the Bible avidly and taught the Adult Sunday School class.

Kay made many contributions to the Forsyth community through the Library, her church, and other organizations. She was a Girl Scout leader and loved teaching young women about the outdoors and the world. She also served on the Foster Panel Review Committee and volunteered at Hubbard Elementary, where she assisted teachers in working with struggling readers. She was a longtime member of the Forsyth Book Club. In her free time, she was a prolific reader. She also loved spending time with family and friends and taking care of her yard.

She was preceded in her death by her loving parents, Edwin Sales Edge and Katherine Roberts Edge, as well as her precious brothers, Robert Edge and Richard Edge. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dohn Bonner of Albany; two children, Wallace (Jennifer) Bonner of Albany, GA and Katherine (John) Branch of Centerville, GA; five grandchildren, Mary Rachel Metzger (Katie) of Macon, GA, Leslie Bonner and Sarah Kay Bonner both of Albany, GA, Jena Katherine Branch and James Richard “J.R.” Branch of Centerville, GA, a sister-in-law, Alice Edge and a niece, Connie Barrett all of Thomasville, GA.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the residence of Wallace and Jennifer Bonner, 2200 Hutchison Ln, Albany, GA.

As she believed that reading is fundamental and fulfilling, those who wish to honor her can make donations to The Monroe County Library, 62 Main St., Forsyth, GA, 31029.
