Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Brooks, 74, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2025, at 4:18 AM, surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 7, 1950, in Barnesville, David was the third of eleven children of Sanford Brooks and Elsie Mae Brooks. Raised in a home rich in love though modest in means, he learned the value of hard work from his father and carried that ethic throughout his life.

After graduating from Milner High School, David was drafted into the United States Air Force, where he served from 1968 to 1973 working in military intelligence during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge. While stationed in Thailand, he met the love of his life, Lun. The two married on September 19, 1972, before returning to the Georgia, where they resided and raised their family.David worked at the Aldora tire mill while attending Tift College at night, earning his degree while raising a young family. In 1979, he began what would become a 35-year career with the United States Postal Service, serving the communities of Forsyth, Monticello, and Manchester. He started as a walking-route mailman in Forsyth, later becoming Supervisor, and eventually Postmaster in Monticello, then Forsyth, and ending his career in Manchester. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David’s greatest joy was his family. He was an avid hunter who didn’t hunt for trophies, but to provide — often sharing venison with families who needed it. He also loved traveling to the mountains with Lun in the fall to watch the leaves change. David loved UGA football, the Atlanta Braves, and Golf. Known for his sweet tooth, he never turned down chocolate, strawberry treats, ice cream, or Little Debbie cakes, and he loved his wife’s home cooking.

David is survived by his loving wife, Lun Brooks; his children Krai Brooks, Jeanette Fuller (Jason), and Mark Brooks (Marinda); grandchildren Shalee Connelly, Devin Couch (Jessie), Haley Hebert, Rachel Jarvis, Maia Andrews, Davey Brooks, Allana Brooks, and Luke Brooks; great-grandchildren Trinity Connelly, Jamie Mitchell, Malachi Couch, Leigha Jenkins, and Hayden Smith; siblings Sam Brooks (Kathy), Sandra Lohnes, Pam Golden (George), Bill Brooks, Lea Kendrick (Johnny), and Sister-in-law Om Jones.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Elsie Mae Brooks, and siblings Jimmy Nicholas, Sarah Richey, Brenda Brooks, Frances Smith (Dwight), and Carol Brooks.
