Obituary of Joseph Wayne Rumble
Joseph Wayne Rumble, 90, of Trussville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025.
Wayne was born on August 19, 1935, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Darden Rumble and Margaret Kell Rumble. Wayne was a loyal, hard-working, honest, loving, talented, and thoughtful man. He put his whole heart into every endeavor and truly believed that if you are going to do something, do it right. He was a man who could be counted on to keep his word and he expected much of himself. Wayne accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was a teenager and was active in his church, even teaching Sunday school to children while attending Georgia Tech. While earning his degree in Industrial Management, he also served as the drum major for the marching band for all four years of college. Wayne served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for six years in the role of chief engineer. He truly loved our country and considered the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness worth fighting for. He married Julia, the love of life, in 1961. They enjoyed taking trips, attending concerts, and browsing bookstores together during their 61 years of marriage. They both shared a love for music and were both accomplished musicians. He started playing violin and bassoon at a young age and as a young man played violin in the Atlanta Symphony. Wayne and Julia lived in Georgia, Illinois, and Connecticut while their children were growing up. He always tried to be a good example to his children and give them opportunities to succeed. Later after he retired, they moved to Asheville, North Carolina. After Julia passed away, he moved to Trussville in 2023. Wayne will be dearly missed, but we know that he is living in the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 61 years, Julia Skelton Rumble, his son, Gregg Rumble, and brothers Ray Rumble and Henry Rumble. He is survived by his children Scott Rumble (Nikki) of Trussville, Alabama; Brennen Rumble (Liz) of York, Maine; Lisa Cannon of Russellville, Arkansas; sister, Inez Rumble of Hawley, Texas; sister-in-law, June Rumble of Birmingham, Alabama; and granddaughters Abigail, Emily, Jenna, Sarah, and Olivia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Deerfoot Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama, on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 2 p.m. with visitation starting at 1 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 25, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Turning Point USA in Wayne’s honor.
