Obituary of Tony Eugene Blackmon
Tony Eugene Blackmon, 75, of Meansville, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Tony was born Wednesday, November 23, 1949, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Eugene “Pete” Blackmon and the late Sybil Christine Gulledge Blackmon. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Elaine Crawford Blackmon and just recently his sister-in-law Mary Frances Piper Blackmon.
Tony attended school in Lamar County at Milner High School. In 1968 he joined the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. along with his older brother Bobby for two years. Tony was a talented musician, and he also had a great voice for vocals. He started out as a rhythm guitarist, then took on the challenge of base guitarist and later became the best drummer that anyone could ask for. Along with his brother Bobby Blackmon they played with the bands The Vagrants, The Saints and the Junkshun. Other band members include Jim Grahm, Jett Jackson, Terry Callahan, Mark Gooden, Tommy Blackmon, and Scottie Blackmon.
Growing up Tony loved to work on and fix things. As he got older, he worked in the construction of building houses and was also a good vehicle mechanic while working for the Georgia State Patrol in Atlanta, Georgia. Several weeks before his death he began to talk more about going to Heaven to be with Jesus and his family members. He was a loving son, brother, husband, dad, and papa. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his children, Daniel Blackmon (Daven), Amanda Feanny (David), Melody Roscoe, Scottie Blackmon (Amber); 15 grandchildren, Cladrian (Cody), Brogan, Jayden, Joey, Elijah, Gracey, Taylor, Brooklin, Stephanie, Grady, Emily, Haley, Holly, Andy (Kaylin), Emma; 6 great-grandchildren, Kahlden, Tynslee, Fischer, Kentley, Briggs, Amelia; brother, Bobby Leon Blackmon; sister, Cheryl Christine Zellner; nephew, Derek Zellner (Jennifer), Jeff Blackmon (Jennifer), Kris Zellner; nieces, Kathy Zellner, Brandy Messer (Kevin), several great nieces and nephews, and many cousins;, two former son-in-laws, James Roscoe, James Zarosky.
There will be a Memorial Service for Tony planned at a later date for his family and friends.
