Obituary of Danny Joseph Maxwell

Please share a memory of Danny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mr. Danny Joseph Maxwell, 75, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Danny was born on Saturday, December 24, 1949, in Warner Robins, Georgia, to the late Joseph J. Maxwell and the late Barbara Beatrice McLean Maxwell. Along with his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Marie Maxwell, and his brother, Jerrell Maxwell.

He later spent much of his youth in the Griffin, Georgia area, where, at just 17 years old, he met the love of his life, Marie Maxwell. That same year, with a strong sense of duty and adventure, Danny enlisted in the United States Navy.

After completing boot camp, Danny was stationed in Key West, Florida, where he proudly served four years as an aircraft mechanic. Marie joined him there, and together they built the foundation of a life marked by hard work, deep love, and quiet dedication. When Danny’s service to his country was complete, he and Marie moved to Barnesville, Georgia, where they made their home and raised their family. Barnesville remained their home for the rest of their lives.

Danny worked for 25 years at Aldora Mills, where he was known as a dependable, steady presence and a hard worker. He worked his way up through Aldora Mill to become a Section Leader. After retiring from the mill, Danny pursued his entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and managed rental houses and later founded Maxwell Trucking, a business he and Marie operated side by side until he retired from that venture as well. Whether he was working on equipment, handling schedules, or dealing with a tenant or customer, Danny was reliable and got the job done.

Outside of work, Danny enjoyed a simple, outdoors-focused life. He spent many early mornings in the woods and quiet afternoons on the water, especially hunting and fishing. He liked being outside, staying busy with his own projects, and keeping to a steady routine.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy York (Heath) and Amy Hamby (Franklin); his son, Jamie Maxwell (Elizabeth); grandchildren, A.C. York, Lizzy York, Hayley York, Sarah York, Destin Maxwell (Carly), Katie Thayer (Logan), Jaiden Maxwell, Jayla Maxwell, Kaidence Maxwell, Kyla Maxwell, and Peyton Maxwell; sisters, Lisa Handley (Gary) and Rhonda Patten; brother, Joey Maxwell; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
