Obituary of Jimmie Burousas
Mr. Jimmie Burousas, Sr. of 665 Gordon Road, Barnesville, age 93, passed away early Sunday morning, October 3, 2010, at Upson Regional Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, but always considered himself a life-long resident of Barnesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Soterios M. “Joe” Burousas and Aurelie Rastello Burousas; his son, Jimmie “Buzz” Burousas, Jr.; his brother, Alex Burousas; and his sister, Helen Burousas Williams.
He was a member of the United States Marine Corps, The Army Air Corps, retiring from the Air Force in 1962. He was a combat veteran flying missions over Europe in World War II, then the Korean Conflict, and later in the war in Southeast Asia, distinguishing himself as a highly decorated veteran earning the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
After retirement from the armed services, he served the citizens of Lamar County over 21 years, first as the County Small Claims Court Judge, Magistrate Judge and later as Chief Magistrate Judge, retiring in that capacity. Additionally he was a member of the Georgia State Defense Force, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Judge Burousas was a Past Master of Pinta Lodge No. 88, Free and Accepted Masons, distinguishing himself with many Masonic honors, including Knight York Cross of Honor, a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a Past Master and Past High Priest of the 6th Masonic District. He served for many years on the Board of Trustees of the Masonic Home of Georgia and as an Ambassador for Al Sihah Shrine Temple.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville, serving there in the past on the Board of Trustees and President of the Men’s Club.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Bobbie Dorsey Burousas; his daughter, Bobbie Carol Waller (Buddy) of Barnesville; his granddaughter, Jennifer Waller Leveillee (Jerry) of Cumming; and two great-grandchildren, Jasmine Marie Leveillee and Tristan James Leveillee of Cumming.
Funeral services for Jimmie Burousas, Sr. will be conducted Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 2 O’Clock in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon (10-5-2010) from 1:15pm until the service hour.
