Obituary of Winnie Tomlin

Mrs. Winifred “Winnie” Posey Harris, of Barnesville, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Joseph Penny and the late Mrs. Rosa Sewell Penny. She and her family moved to Barnesville in 1956 from Thomaston. Shortly thereafter, she bought the Barnesville Beauty Shop and operated it for nearly 50 years. She was also a longtime Sunday School teacher at Calvary Baptist Church and later at the First Baptist Church of Barnesville. In addition to her beauty shop, she worked at Wal-Mart in Griffin and Gordon College, where she met her third husband, Tommy Tomlin. Their marriage lasted only three years when Tommy died of an aneurysm. After moving to Bellaire Bluffs, Florida in 2007, she decided the pull of Barnesville was too strong and returned in 2008 to her beloved home and friends. In addition to Mr. Tomlin, she was also preceded in death by her two previous husbands, Mr. W.E. Harris and Mr. Jake Posey. Survivors include: Her children: Brenda Harris Nixon of Clearwater, FL & Johnny Jacob Posey, Jr. (& Sara) of Sharpsburg ; 2 Grandchildren - J.J. Posey, III (& Yamila) of Tallahassee, FL and Stacy Posey Koonce (& Bob) of Peachtree City ; 3 Great Grandchildren - Sara Posey of Tallahassee, FL ; and Kyle Koonce and Jake Koonce, both of Peachtree City ; and a number of nieces and nephews.
