Obituary of Virginia Smith
Virginia Bramblett Smith, age 95, of Waleska, passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2012. She was born in Meansville, Georgia, (Pike County) and was a longtime resident of Decatur, Georgia. Daughter of the late Mr. James Cicero Bramblett and the late Mrs. Eugenia Vaughan Bramblett, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Dabney Smith, Jr. She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and lived her life for His glory. Her love for Jesus and her joy in the Lord were always evident. Her life centered around her family, and intercessory prayer was a great part of her daily life. She was an active member of The Flame Worship Center, Waleska, Ga. Mrs. Smith had a prolific art career with exhibitions in venues such as the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Vincent Price Gallery in Chicago, Marymount International in New York City, Callaway Gardens in LaGrange, Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences, and the Swan Coach House in Atlanta. One-person shows included Dekalb College and the Herbert Museum in Augusta. She is a past vice-president of the Atlanta Watercolor Club. Her paintings received numerous awards in the Roswell Arts Festival, the Sears Contemporary Southern Art Exhibition, Purchase Gardens Art Center, the Roswell Arts Festival, and the Atlanta Artists’ Club. Mrs. Smith taught art in Atlanta for 17 years with the YWCA, YMCA, Dekalb College, and Decatur Art Center. She served as a volunteer with Vista Volunteers, Atlanta Union Mission for Women, and Meals on Wheels. During World War II, she was a Red Cross nurse’s aide.
Survivors include her son Harry Vaughan Smith of Lake City, Florida; Eugene Dabney Smith (Janny) of Waleska, Georgia; and grandchildren James (Katie) of Atlanta, and Miriam, Rachel and Thomas Smith of Waleska, Georgia. Her family will miss her very much, but as Virginia liked to say, "Heaven is forever!"
Funeral Services for Mrs. Virginia Bramblett Smith will be conducted Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 3 O'Clock in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Dr. Steven J. Land officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, April 7, 2012, from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
