Alice Weber

Obituary of Alice Weber

Dr. Alice Godard Weber, age 89, of Milner passed quietly from us early Sunday morning, August 19, 2012, at her home with her son, Jim, and his wife, Sally. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to her parents, the late Mr. William Wallace Godard and the late Mrs. Pauline Elizabeth Willis Godard. They were transplants to that northern city, though born and raised in Lamar County. After a life spent as a professional writer, and creative director for her own ad agency and others, she received her PhD in American Literature at age 74 from Georgia State University. She bought and restored one of Lamar’s most deserving houses, the old “Dogtrot House” on Liberty Hill Road in Milner. This 1825 or earlier structure was architecturally significant and might otherwise have been lost without Alice’s restoration. Survivors include: 5 Children - Michael (& Kate) Weber, David (& Sharon) Weber, Kathrin Weber, Jim (& Sally) Weber, & Loretta Weber Tingle ; 2 Sisters - Sarah Godard Stang of Vermont, & Jane Godard Clifford of North Carolina ; 8 Grandchildren ; & 2 Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral Services for Mrs. Alice Weber will be conducted Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 1 O’Clock in the Milner United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Milner Baptist Cemetery, where she will lie next to her parents.
