Obituary of James Smith

The Reverend James Talmadge Smith, age 83, of Barnesville passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 in an Upson County Healthcare Facility. A native of Barnesville, he was the son of the late Mr. Fonzie Clay Smith and the late Mrs. Sarah Jane Matthews Smith, and was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Clay Smith, and by a grandson, MSGT Davy Nathaniel Weaver. Rev. Smith was a Veteran, having served in the National Guard. He Retired as a Civil Service Worker after serving 24 years at Robins Air Force Base, and then worked as a Lamar County School Bus Driver for another 6 years. He was a former Pastor at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Flovilla. Rev. Smith was a member at Lilla Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, as well as playing the Bass Guitar in Lilla’s Music Ministry. He was also a member of “The Gospel Echoes”, and loved to play his Martin Guitar. Survivors include: His wife of 63½ years - Alice Mae Smith of Barnesville ; 3 Children - Patsy Rabuck of Barnesville, James “Skippy” Smith of Fayetteville, & April Lynne Smith Starling of Monroe, NC ; 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, & Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives. Funeral Services for the Reverend James Talmadge Smith will be conducted Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2 O’Clock in the Lilla Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Rex Kessler officiating. Interment will follow in Lamar Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 from 6pm until 8pm. The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, that Memorial Contributions be made to the Gideons International, c/o The Lamar-Monroe Gideon Camp, P.O. Box 613, Forsyth, GA 31029.
