Obituary of Doris Shaw Jefferson
Mrs. Doris Shaw Jefferson, 74, of Roanoke, Alabama passed away December 12, 2014, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Mrs. Jefferson was born September 2, 1940 in LaGrange, wife of the late Bob Hoyt Jefferson, and daughter of the late John Andrew Shaw and Lera Voice McDaniel.
Ms. Jefferson’s life was dedicated to service and joy. Her past accomplishments include a lifetime Georgia PTA membership award, den mother to Cub Scout Troup 531 of Mableton, co-founder of the United Way of Atlanta 211 service, and two time foster mother. Ms. Jefferson was a member of the Marietta First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
Ms. Jefferson’s early career included time as a flight attendant for American Airlines where she developed a love of travel along with her husband Bob who was employed by Southern Airways at the time. Ms. Jefferson later worked for Bell South of Atlanta for over 35 years in the human resources department before dedicating her final years to a life of service with United Way, Austell Presbyterian Church and other non-profits.
Ms. Jefferson provided executive services during her decade long employment with Association Services Group located in LaGrange, from 2001-2011. Along with Keep Troup Beautiful she proudly handled Southeastern Society of American Foresters, Georgia Commercial Flower Growers Association and Georgia Sanitary Suppliers Association. Ms. Jefferson’s final service was as executive director of Keep Troup Beautiful from 2011 until her death.
Ms. Jefferson was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hoyt Jefferson in 2008 and her eldest son, Robert Shawn Jefferson, also in 2008.
Ms. Jefferson’s surviving children and grandchildren include her son Joel Parish Jefferson, her adopted son Derrick Peavy and their families: daughter-in-law Robin Jefferson and grandchildren Blake, Hanna and Hunter Jefferson of Austell, and daughter-in-law Jane Peavy and granddaughter Elizabeth Peavy of Decatur, and granddaughter Shawna Jefferson of Powder Springs, daughter of the late Robert Shawn Jefferson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00, Saturday, December 27, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Chapel with Dr. Charles McCook officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 at College Park Cemetery in College Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral from 10:00 until 11:00 before service.
