Obituary of Ann Turner

Mrs. Ann Turner, 72, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sonya Turner. She was born December 3, 1941 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Cliff and Earnestine Elizabeth Mulkey Payton. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church in Molena and the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Tift College and taught school in the Lamar County School System, Barnesville Academy, Thomaston City Schools and the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home in Meansville. Mrs. Turner was the owner of R & A Ceramics. She was the first female elected official in Barnesville in 1970s and was twice elected to the Lamar County School Board of Education. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sonya Turner of Barnesville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tommy Adcox of Zebulon; grandchildren, Vanna Turner Raybould and her husband, John, Christopher Turner and his girlfriend, Kayla, Grant Turner, Hayley Turner, all of Barnesville, and Tara Adcox of Zebulon; a great-granddaughter, Payton Grace Turner; sisters and a brother-in-law, Hazel Rice, Louise Dingler, and Corrine and Bud Grubbs; brothers, Ronald E. Payton and Larry Payton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Royce Alfred Turner. Services will be at 2:00 Friday at the Breedlove Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Pitts and Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. The family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sonya Turner, and will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
