Obituary of Larry Leon Martin

Mr. Larry Leon Martin, 76, of Lamar County, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough. He was born May 1, 1937 in Barnesville, son of the late George C. and Vivian Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of the Rock Springs Congregational Methodist Church. He had worked with several companies in the textile industry serving as part of the executive management and also at William Carter Company. Mr. Martin graduated from the Gordon Military High School and College, and served the United States in both the Army Reserves and the Navy Reserves. He was an avid Georgia Tech football fan. Survivors include his best friend and companion, Mardy Christensen of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Elizabeth Martin of Jackson; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Kim and Ricky Johnson of San Antonio, TX; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer Waddell of Greenville, SC; eight grandchildren; brother, Walter Martin of Barnesville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and former wife, Carole Martin of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Elaine Sheperd Martin and his and Carole's infant daughter, Marilyn Martin. Graveside services will be at 3:00 Sunday at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston with Minister Mardy Christensen and Minister Ricky Shepard officiating. The family will receive friends at the Breedlove Memorial Chapel from 1:30 until 2:30 before the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Larry Leon Martin to the Rock Springs Christian Academy, 219 Rock Springs Road, Milner GA 30257. Service Information
