Obituary of Robert Neil Anderson
Mr. Robert Neil Anderson, age 74, of Barnesville, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the Emory University Hospital.
Mr. Anderson was born October 23, 1940 in Americus, GA, son of the late Gustavus Adolphus and Grace McMath Anderson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired as an engineer from IBM. Mr. Anderson loved farming. He was a commercial poultry producer for Cagle and Perdue from 1981 to 2014 and a hay farmer since 1996. He won awards as a producer for Perdue and was Lamar County Farmer of the Year in 2008. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Barnesville Rotary Club, the Redbone Community Club, the chairman of the County Board of Equalization and had served several years with the Georgia Disaster Relief. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and teacher for the Beria Sunday school class. Mr. Anderson was very active in the Centennial Association Missions and was involved with the Samaritan’s Purse ministry.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dianne Anderson of Barnesville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bron Holcomb of Canton, NC, Jennifer and Richard Purvis of Bennett, NC, and Mary and Kenneth Garrison of Barnesville; seven grandchildren, Jackson Holcomb, Caleb Holcomb, Andrew Purvis, Leah Purvis, Katherine Purvis, Justin Garrison and Walt Garrison; two sisters, Emily Gilstrap and Marie Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be held at 2:00 Monday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Garth Forster officiating. Interment will follow in the Fredonia Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.
