I am sorry for your loss. I know the pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God's Word for comfort such as in 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 and in John 5:28,29 God promises us to resurrect the dead right here on earth. If you wish for more information, I encourage you to please visit jw.org.

May God Bless and strengthen you Shelia and the Family during this time of sorrow. Smitty was my First Sergeant in the Jackson Recruiting Company, Jackson, MS. I could not have been blessed with a greater teacher, mentor and teammate. Our careers went in different paths until we were reunited in Atlanta at HQ, ARCENT where we worked and travelled together for over seven years. I am a NASCAR fan today thanks to Smitty. I've been to many races and several tracks but I always hoped to make it to Talladega with you. You will be missed but your kindness and life experiences you shared with me will be forever remembered. Shelia, I will keep you and your family lifted in prayer. AndrA J. Sterling

My condolences to all the Smith family. Smitty was my 1SG in the Athens (GA) Recruiting Company. He taught me many things. His first lesson was on how not to go completely crazy when our higher HQ would task us with recruiting quotas everyone knew were impossible to meet! He was a great person to lean on and learn from. Another thing I remember about Smitty was how much he loved his family, especially his Grand Children. Spending time with family was something he loved, and wanted to do even more. Shelia, he talked about you often, and how important you were to him, and you family. Smitty, I will miss you!

Smitty was a great guy. I had the opportunity to work with him when I was in USARCENT and he had a knack for getting people to where they were all supposed to be, all at the same time. He will be greatly missed. Rich Rassbach

I have had the pleasure of knowing Smitty since 1999 when we began working together at Third Army. He was always willing to help folks with solving their troubles and smoothed the way for many a VIP. He talked many a time about his family. I will miss him. I want to wish his family my deepest sympathy and let them know I will say a prayer for him and them.
