Obituary of Mattie Archer

Ms. Mattie Archer passed from this earthly home at her residence on Sunday, July 15, 2018. She was one of nine children born to the late John Richard and Buelah Anthony, of Griffin, Georgia. Although born in Griffin, she lived in Barnesville for over 50 years and counted it as home.

Ms. Mattie is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Archer and daughter, Donna Archer Epps. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Dora Gann and brothers, Lee Anthony, Ernest Anthony and James Anthony. Mattie loved her children, Darrel Archer (Sheryl) of Arlington, Texas, Steve Archer (Sheryl) of Gay, Georgia, and daughter, Tracey Archer of Barnesville, Georgia. Her grandchildren were a great source of joy for her and she loved each one: David Kennedy, Griffin, Candice Rice (Kenneth) of Griffin, Joshua Epps, Barnesville, Hannah Epps, Barnesville and Christa Smith (Matthew) of Milner. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren: Corbit Peterman, Alissa Rice, Madison Smith, Alexis Milner, Anson Rice, and baby Maddox Smith. Mattie worked various jobs in her lifetime. She would begin working in textile at Spalding Knitting Mill, and continued by working at Millanwood in Milner, a job she truly loved. She would work for a while at Kim Company and eventually retire to care for her husband as he battled cancer.

Ms. Mattie will be remembered as a loving mother, a sweet grandmother and an awesome great grandmother. She will be remembered as a giving and beautiful sister, aunt, friend and caregiver to many. She was thought of as a mother to several of her grandchildren as she was a prominent person in their lives. As her health failed, she would give up her passion for gardening and continue to read as much possible. She loved her time on Facebook and seeing the pictures of family and friends. Heaven truly gained a sweet, caring and an amazing person.

Graveside funeral services for Ms. Mattie Archer will be conducted on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Lamar Memory Gardens.
