Her outsized personality and giving spirit made me look forward to seeing Roxie every Sunday at Midway Baptist when I was growing up. You knew you were loved when Roxie talked to you. She was a favorite at the Country Kitchen and Ponderosa back then as well. Roxie was a good woman and heaven is a richer place by her presence there.

So many remember Roxie as a wonderful waitress. But did you know that she was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church for many years? She was a Sunday School secretary as well as Nursery Care worker during worship service every Sunday . She rocked many babies to sleep. It was a blessing to know and love her. Country Kitchen, The Ponderosa, and then Past Time Grill--and there was Roxie. In addition to the catfish and hush-puppies, it was worth going out to eat to see her and and hear "Mo' tea?" (or if you were really lucky, "Mo' tea, Shug?") You were one of her family, and she was going to make sure you didn't leave hungry. I hope she knows now how many lives she touched and blessed in her very own down-to-earth Roxie way.
And Roxie? Welcome Home.

Roxie was a bright, shiny, "no fuss, no muss" character! She always had a smile on her face, even when you knew she was dog tired. I will always cherish her genuine love and support she graciously showed me while I was growing up, and when my parents passed so many years ago. I will never forget her!
