Obituary of Dorothy Jean Reed

Dorothy Jean Reed, 75, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in a Thomaston health care facility. Mrs. Reed was born Thursday, January 6, 1947 in Deer Lodge, TN, daughter of the late Alvah Gerald and Mildred Hensley. She was employed with Continental Tire and was a member of the Lighthouse Church. Mrs. Reed was described as a “spunky little ol woman” who believed in helping anyone she could. She was active in the Barnesville First Assembly Food Ministry, Love Thy Neighbor Outreach Ministry, Meet Me At The Club, and Toys for Tots. She always put others first before her self. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Douglas Reed, and a child, Bobby Spurling, Jr. Survivors include her children Denita Atkinson of Florida; Debra Wilson of The Rock; and Alvah Reed of Barnesville. Brothers George Hensley of Kentucky, Willard Lea Hensley of Thomaston, and Tommy Hensley of Deer Lodge, Tennessee.10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at The Lighthouse Church in Barnesville with Reverends Bobby Callaway Sr and Bobby Callaway Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at the church. Interment will follow the service in Greenwood Cemetery.
