Obituary of William Hilton Stevens
William Hilton Stevens, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13th, 2024.
He was born on December 8th, 1946, to the late Robert Stevens and the late Marjory Harwick Stevens. He was raised in Hapeville, GA by the late Edward Liptak (stepfather) and mother Marjory.
“Mr. Bill” (as he was lovingly referred to) excelled in academics from an early age. He graduated from Hapeville High School in 1964. One of his favorite recollections was that he was a high school senior when famous comedian, Jeff Foxworthy, was a freshman. After high school, he attended Middle GA College for two years before being drafted into the Army.
He served two years in the US Army ranked as Specialist Fourth Class, stationed in Alaska. Upon his honorable discharge, LTC L.M. Kirk wrote: “Your military bearing, conduct, and efficiency set an example for others to follow and earned you the praise of all with whom you worked.”
After his military service, Mr. Bill returned to Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia Athens where he earned a BS in Journalism. His first job was in Advertising in New York City. When he moved back to Atlanta, he worked for the State of GA as an Archivist.
Mr. Bill was a talented artist who loved to oil paint. He spent countless hours creating canvas art. His paintings included scenic views, portraits, antique cars, abstract art, and many more. In addition to painting, he was a master at carving. His specialty was duck decoys.
Mr. Bill is survived by his wife, Linda Lou Stevens (married 22 years), daughter Catherine Van Keirsbulck (Steve Van Keirsbulck), son Garrett Stevens (Kristy Hensley), son Andrew Stevens (Whitney Stevens), stepdaughter Sherri Hines, brother Joe Liptak (Sheryl Liptak), grandchildren Jacob, Emily, Jase, Elizabeth, Carter, Isabella, Graysen, Weylyn, and Emma.
He was preceded in death by Robert Stevens (father), Marjory Stevens (mother), Edward Liptak (stepfather), Len Hines (stepson) and Rebecca Stevens (sister).
Mr. Bill was a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. But his legacy will live on through the lives of his beautiful family and his artistic creations.
