Obituary of John "Ray" Raymond Laney

Mr. John “Ray” Raymond Laney, age 79, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Ray was born on Sunday, October 8, 1944, in Barnesville, Georgia, to the late Charles Harold Laney and the late Florence Virginia Laney.

Ray was a hardworking and very giving man. He pursued a successful career at General Tire, retiring after 35 years, then moving on as a gifted carpenter renovating several homes in the local area. He loved seeing people smile even if it meant picking on them.  He loved watching “wrastling” and Georgia Bulldog Football games “Go Dawgs”. In his leisure time, he loved going fishing, golfing and camping. Ray loved the Lord, serving in several capacities and was a member of Rock Springs Church for over 20 years.

Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years; Betty Sue Laney; son, Todd Laney (Janet); daughter, Tonya Laney (Nicole Chamlee); grandchildren, Adam Laney (Abby) Haley Laney (Nikki), Justin Laney (Kacey), Mackenzie Sorrow (Josh Rooks), Tyler Chamlee; great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Bowen, Kinsleigh, Kora Ray, Tanner, Greyson; brothers, Charlie Laney, Tony Laney; sister, Nancy Craze; Aunt Betty Powell. Several nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Memorial Service for Mr. John Raymond Laney will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. at Rock Springs Church with Dr. Benny Tate officiating. The family will receive friends at Rock Springs Church from 4:00 P.M. till 5:00 P.M.
