Obituary of Howard Reeves
Mr. Howard Walter Reeves, Sr., age 80, of Barnesville passed away Friday, June 26, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Reeves was a native of Floyd County, but had made his home in Lamar County or most of his life. Son of the late Mr. Andrew Jackson Reeves and the late Mrs. Lillian Mabel Booker Reeves, he was a member of the Baptist faith. Mr. Reeves Retired from BellSouth after 32 years of service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Reeves also served his community in several positions. Those positions included being an Associate Magistrate for Lamar County for 10 ½ years, serving as the First President of the Lamar County Recreation Board, and serving as a Coach and Umpire for Little League Football and Baseball. Mr. Reeves was also a Lifetime Member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Survivors include: His wife of 54 years, Carlene Lyles Reeves of Barnesville ; His Son, Walter Reeves, and his wife, Renee of Barnesville ; 2 Daughters, Cindy Green of Barnesville & Terri Cochran, and her husband, Billy of Williamson ; His Sister, Betty Stinnette of Brooksfield, Florida ; 5 Grandchildren, Joel Cochran, Cale Cochran, Melanie (& Brandon) Vaughn, Andrew Walter Reeves, & James Jarred Green ; 1 Great Grandson, Braden Vaughn ; A Special Nephew, Bob (& Odene) White of Barnesville ; & His Special Companion, Charlie.
Funeral Services for Mr. Howard Walter Reeves, Sr. will be conducted Monday, June 29, 2009 at 11 O’Clock in the Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Lamar Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Sunday evening, June 28, 2009 from 5pm until 7pm.
