Obituary of James Whitten

James Godwin Whitten, Jr., age 76, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in a Bibb County Healthcare Facility. A lifelong resident of Lamar County, he was the son of the late Mr. James Godwin Whitten and the late Mrs. Mattie Lee Evans Whitten, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Geneva Yvonne Hutto Whitten, and by his son, Gregory Mark Whitten. Mr. Whitten had been a Printer for the William Carter Company. He was a Korean War Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include: 2 Daughters, Marie Whitten Selby and her husband, William, of Dallas & Judi Michelle Whitten Lambert and her husband, David Wayne, of Dallas ; 1 Brother, Jed Lyles, Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Fayetteville ; 1 Sister, Betty Gayle Lyles Wimpy and her husband, Scott, of Griffin ; 7 Grandchildren, Jandi Childs, John-Derek Childs, Mariah Selby, Austin Selby, Stevie Strickland, Sammy Strickland, & Hugh James Strickland ; 2 Great Grandchildren, Landon Childs, & McKenzie Strickland. Funeral Services for Mr. James Whitten, Jr. will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 3 O’Clock in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Reverend Ben Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Lamar Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 7pm until 9pm.
