Obituary of Virginia Dennis

Mrs. Virginia Collier Dennis, age 93, of Barnesville, passed away on September 27, 2013 in a Lamar County healthcare facility. She was born June 22, 1920 to the late Mr. Durward Cuthbert Collier and Mrs. Annie Reid McGarlty Collier. Mrs. Dennis was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. William Wade Dennis. She retired from Gordon Military High School as a teacher and librarian. Mrs. Dennis was the former Owner, Editor, & Publisher of The Pike County Journal & The Georgia Post, of Roberta, and was also the author of the column “A to Z” in the Barnesville News Gazette for 25 years, while serving as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She also was a horticulturist, marionettist, and a painter. Survivors include: 2 daughters-Angelyn (& Ron) Spangenberg, and Melinda Dennis; 4 Grandchildren- Grace Schultz, Sarah Shultz, Penny Williamson, and Megan Williamson; 2 nephews & some distant cousins. Funeral Services for Mrs. Virginia Collier Dennis will be conducted Monday, September 30, 2013 at 2pm in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Reverend Dana Overton-Garrett officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 1pm until the service hour.
