Obituary of Duane Eilola
Mr. Duane Brunolf Eilola, age 79, of Barnesville passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 7, 1934, to the late Mr. Brunolf August Eilola and the late Mrs. Libbie Selina Korby Eilola. He was a retired CPA.
He attended high school in Barnesville at Gordon Military College and graduated in 1952. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He married Florence Conklin Eckfeld in 1962 and together they had two daughters, Linda and Karen. Duane and Florence separated many years later.
While in elementary school, Duane, learned to play the drums a passion that continued the rest of his life. He played for the Gordon Military band while at Gordon and as an adult played in several jazz bands and combo sessions.
Duane was an avid University of Michigan football and basketball fan. While living in Ann Arbor, he'd often would work as a statistician at University basketball games.
Duane started his career at the University of Microfilms in Ann Arbor and was transferred to Northern Virginia in the mid-1970s and later began to work for himself as an accountant for various clients.
In the late 1990s, Duane moved to San Diego, California where both of his daughters had relocated. While in San Diego, he became very active in the Country Western and Swing Dancing communities for many years.
Duane relocated to Barnesville in 2009 and volunteered for several activities at the Gordon State College Alumni Affairs Office.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda Eilola Eaton (Derrick) of San Antonio, TX. and Karen Eilola-Miller (Jeffrey) of Johns Creek, GA; four grandchildren: Chelsea Miller, Rowdy Miller, Jeremy Eaton, and Erin Eaton; and a sister Ardith Tromley (Richard) of Sarasota, FL.
Funeral Services for Mr. Duane Eilola will be Private.
