Obituary of Mary Lynnette Smyth
Mrs. (Mary) Lynnette Smyth of Barnesville, GA passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, June 23, 2014 at Upson County Regional Hospital. Survivors include Mark Smyth of Barnesville, her husband of 29 years, and a brother David S. Spencer of Chattanooga, TN. She was born was born in Chattanooga, TN on February 02, 1963. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul E. Spencer and her mother Gloria M. Spencer, both of Chattanooga, TN.
Ms Smyth was a full professor of economics at Gordon State College in Barnesville, GA and had taught at Gordon for the past 14 years. Prior to Gordon, she taught economics at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In addition to a doctorate in economics from Rutgers University, she held a Master’s degree in statistics from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO and a BA in math from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, TN.
She was born to teach; she brought her love of learning along with an energetic presentation of course content to the classroom. She will be missed by students, colleagues, friends, and family. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed discovering the unique beauty of the many varieties of plants that she maintained.
The location and date for a remembrance service will be determined following her stated desire to be cremated.
