Obituary of Walter Martin

Mr. Walter George Martin, age 75, of Barnesville passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in a Barnesville Healthcare Facility. Mr. Martin was born in Barnesville to the late Mr. George Cephus Martin and to the late Mrs. Vivian Wiggins Martin. He was a member the Lion’s Club, past member of Kiwanis, past member of Rotary, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville. Mr. Martin began a career in the Funeral Industry in 1964 working for Haisten Funeral Home in Barnesville, moved to Jackson, and then moved to Griffin. Mr. Martin worked as a pre-need sales agent for Crestlawn Funeral Home in Macon from 1985 until 1989. In 1989 Mr. Martin bought Haisten Funeral Home and in 1998 he sold the Funeral Home to Prime Succession. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his Wife, Anne Willis Martin, and two Brothers, Claude C. Martin and Larry Martin. Survivors include: 3 Sons – W. Tim Martin of Atlanta, W. Todd Martin of Columbia, SC, and David Sanders Martin of Griffin ; 3 Daughters – Susan Alesia Martin Hickman of Roswell, Melonie Sanders Mayers of Barnesville, and Kristie Sullivan of McDonough ; 11 Grandchildren ; and 1 Great Grandchild. Funeral services for Mr. Walter George Martin will be conducted Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 3 O’Clock in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville with the Reverends Garth Forster and Franklin Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 6pm until 8pm.
