Obituary of Joel Vaughn

The Reverend Joel Henry Vaughn, age 79, of Barnesville passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in a Macon Healthcare Facility. A native of Spalding County, Reverend Vaughn had made his home in Lamar County for most of his life. Son of the late Mr. George Clifford Vaughn and the late Mrs. Martha Louise Jones Vaughn, he was also preceded in death by wife, Mrs. Dorothy Zellner Vaughn, and by two brothers, Mr. Roy Vaughn and Mr. Roland Vaughn. Reverend Vaughn worked in Insurance Sales for several years, as well as being a Retired School Bus Driver for The Lamar County School System. He also spent over 50 years of his life as a Pastor to the people of Barnesville and the surrounding communities. Some of the churches that he served as Pastor are the Faithful Christian Baptist Church in Thomaston, The Open Bible Tabernacle in Lizella, Lilla Baptist Church in Barnesville, Old McDonough Road Baptist Church in Griffin, Fairview Baptist Church in Senoia, and Liberty Hill Church in Lamar County. Pastor Vaughn loved Gospel Music, and sang in several Gospel Groups over the years. He also had a Radio Ministry for a number of years. Survivors include: 3 Sons - Joel H. Vaughn, Jr. (& wife, Kathy C.) of Barnesville, Danny Ray Vaughn (& wife, Kathy W.) of Barnesville, & Jerry Ray Vaughn (& wife, Lawanda J.) of Griffin ; 1 Daughter - Martha Louise Allison (& husband, Harvey L.) of Ringgold ; 1 Brother - Clifford Vaughn of Barnesville ; 2 Sisters - Alice Mae Smith (& husband, James T.) of Barnesville, & Margarite Davis (& husband, Luther) of Barnesville ; 1 Sister-in-law - Leanoah Vaughn of Barnesville ; 9 Grandchildren ; 8 Great Grandchildren ; and A Number of other relatives also survive. Funeral Services for Reverend Joel Henry Vaughn will be conducted Friday, November 13, 2009 at 1 O’Clock in The First Baptist Church of Barnesville with Reverend Garth Forster and Reverend Pete Page officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Thursday (11-12) from 6pm until 8pm.
