Obituary of Gaie Pittman
Mrs. Gaie Williams Pittman, of Barnesville, GA, died Friday, March 6, 2015, in Thomaston, Georgia. Mrs. Pittman was preceded in death by her husband, William Lanz “Bill” Pittman. Mrs. Pittman is survived by her son, Randy Pittman (& wife, Daina) of Birmingham, AL ; her daughter, Suzanne Pittman Forster (& husband, Garth) of Barnesville, GA. Mrs. Pittman is also survived by grandchildren, Allison Pittman Fuqua (& husband, Tyler) of Birmingham; Kelly Pittman Strickland (& husband, Dan) of Opelika, AL; Brent Peters Forster of Austin, TX; and Savannah Cheri’ Forster of Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Pittman was the sister of the late Duke Williams, who was killed in action in World War II.
Mrs. Pittman was born on April 4, 1923, in Anniston, AL, the daughter of the late Earnest Wright Williams and Pauline Witherspoon Williams. After graduating from Anniston High School in 1941, Mrs. Pittman enrolled at Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor of Interior Decoration in 1946. She married Bill Pittman upon his return from serving in World War II and enjoyed 63 years of marriage until Bill’s homegoing in 2009.
After graduation, they settled in Gadsden, AL, which was their home for over 50 years. Mrs. Pittman served alongside Bill in the First Baptist Church of Gadsden where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Volunteer, and supporter of the Woman’s Missionary Union.
In 1999, the Pittmans moved to Leesburg, Florida, where Bill and Gaie were instrumental in the founding of Southpointe Baptist Fellowship. After seven years in Leesburg, they moved to Barnesville where they were active in First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Pittman loved to travel with her husband, paint, create beautiful handiwork, and play bridge. Most of all, Mrs. Pittman loved her family and her church. She always considered her roles as wife and mother to be her most important life work.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Gaie Pittman will be conducted in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2 O’Clock. The family will be receiving friends at the church between 1:00 and 2:00.
The family would like to thank the staff of Providence Healthcare Center in Thomaston and Heartland Hospice for faithfully ministering to her in her last year.
