Obituary of Jeanette Chitwood

Mrs. Jeanette Ivey Downes Chitwood, age 100, of Barnesville, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in an Upson County Healthcare Facility. A native of Luvern, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Charles James Ivey and the late Mrs. Marth Frank Alford Ivey, and was also preceded in death by her first husband,(of 30 years) Joseph Daniel Downes, Sr, by her second husband, (of 32 years) Lester Lewis Chitwood, and by a grandson, Brian. Mrs. Chitwood loved gardening. She was a member of The Women’s League, active in The Little Children of the World, and the was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Barnesville, where she was active in Sunday School and served as Treasurer of her Sunday School Class. Mrs. Chitwood is survived by: Her Daughter – Martha Holloway (& Robert) of Barnesville ; Her Son – Joseph Downes, Jr. (& Susan) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL ; a Step-daughter – Jan Bearden (& Mike) of White, GA ; 3 Grandchildren ; 3 Step-Grandchildren ; 13 Great Grandchildren ; 1 Sister – Ruby Roper of Montgomery, AL ; and several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Jeanette Chitwood will be conducted Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 1 O’Clock in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville with the Reverend Garth Forster officiating. Interment will follow at 4 O’Clock Saturday afternoon (11-14-15) in the Forest Hills Memorial Park in Forest Park. The family will receive friends here at the Williams Funeral Home on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 6pm until 8pm. The family has requested, that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to The First Baptist Church of Barnesville, 200 Zebulon Street, Barnesville, GA 30204.
