Life Legacy
Mr. Stonie Brock Carter, age 82, of Barnesville passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his residence. Having lived most of his life in Barnesville, he was the son of the late Mr. Richmond Stonewall Carter, I and the late Emma Lou Pounds Carter, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Grady Carter, and by his sister, Velma Carter Rhodes. Mr. Carter was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnesville, and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Carter, along with his brother, Grady, were the owners/operators of Carter’s Drug Store, which was a Barnesville mainstay for numerous years. Mr. Carter, and his brother, Grady, were recipients of the Barnesville/Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award in Business. Stonie was also former Senior Vice Commander of the local VFW, as well as a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a Gordon Military College Alumni, as well as an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, and never missed an opportunity to honor his alma mater.
Survivors include: 2 Daughters – Samantha Carter Jackson of Burke, VA, and Virginia Carter Slocum (& Justin) of Freeport, TX ; 1 Son – Richmond Stonewall Carter, II (& Jenny) of Sandy Springs ; 2 Grandchildren – Allison & Everett ; & numerous Nieces, Nephews, & Other relatives.
Funeral Services for Mr. Stonie Brock Carter will be conducted from the Graveside on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11 O’Clock in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6pm until 8pm.
